Like When You Look: For Orchestra

Like When You Look (for orchestra) reiterates imagistic gestures intended to be heard in one way—each in an instant, in the manner of a glance—but also in another way, as a succession of short phrases suggesting a fleeting familiarity over time. In two movements, the work traces the impact sonority and gesture make on each other. Fascinations with particular sounds yield a lyric of their own, and fragile flickers embedded in melody become more integral with each repetition.
