Abstract

This study attempts to focus the meaning of the Niphal verbal forms in some 4100 examples found in Biblical Hebrew. Beginning with a survey of the major grammarians' understanding of the Niphal, chapter one notes significant omissions and discrepancies among these grammarians, as well as general absence of attention given to the Niphal, particularly in comparison to other stems such as the Piel.
