“It’s hard for me to sign FS-DOG [the newer variant]. In the past, [my son] would tell [his wife], ‘My mother uses this Philadelphia sign for ‘dog’. [His wife] was like, ‘Hold on [don’t use that sign].’ I have to be mentally controlled [not to]....When I talk to other Philadelphians, I’d [probably] use this older sign for ‘dog’ because we all have common [knowledge of what it means]”
